Place-related point of reference for the poetic thinking pictures
Protestant parish church, Heuchelheim. Choir (14th century), west tower (dated 1503) and wall/ceiling painting in the choir (around 1500).
The Sanctus of Conversion
Ceiling paintings (around 1500), west tower (dated 1503). The thinking pictures interpret the frescoes in the choir vault of the church, which depict angels making music, among other things. The 15th century is considered the century of angels. In the liturgy of the time, it was believed that angels played the “Sanctus” from the starry sky during the consecration. As this heavenly music was not audible to people on earth, it was intended to be perceived by the senses during the meditation of prayer. This invitation to pause for a moment still applies today.
