A Living Testimony: The Medieval Brotherhood of St. James St. George’s Church is not just a random stop along the way. Historical documents in the parish register of St. George’s Church provide verifiable evidence that an active Brotherhood of St. James existed in Rhodt during the Middle Ages. This makes the church an invaluable, authentic testament to the deep roots of the regional St. James tradition.
For culture enthusiasts, the stone shell embedded in the ground marks a key stop on the journey of discovery along the imaginary “Haardt Axis” of the Starry Path. From here, the historic route runs south along the Haardt toward Wissembourg and Strasbourg, and from there continues over the edge of the Vosges Mountains to Thann—the major southern Alsatian hub for pilgrims on the Way of St. James.
Moving Forward with European Responsibility
This signage and designation were implemented in close collaboration with the Protestant parish. In this way, it actively promotes the theme of Europe to the outside world and brings the guiding principle of peaceful, open coexistence directly to the path. Consciously walking along the Starry Path challenges us not only to admire our rich cultural heritage, but also to understand it as an ethical compass for a Europe of tomorrow built on solidarity.
