Anniversary celebration in Wissembourg
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the installation of the stone St. James shell at the medieval Benedictine abbey church of St. Peter and Paul, on July 31, 2022, a festive event with an ecumenical service was held on the initiative of the former president of the Alsatian St. James Society (Les Amis de Sainte Jaques en Alsace) Evelyne Studer and Karl Unold of the St. James Society of Rhineland-Palatinate-Saarland.
Numerous guests were present when solemnly also the guiding theme of the model project was presented during the service and the solemnity in the cloister of the abbey church. On this occasion, the new president of the Alsatian St. James Society, Claude Hatterer, and the new president of the St. James Society of Rhineland-Palatinate-Saarland, Birgit Heinrich, also introduced themselves. The Rev. Jean Annette Ruby of the neighboring St. Jean Church, which was also decorated with a stone scallop shell as part of the project, was also involved in the festivities as celebrant of the service with an inspiring sermon.
Project manager Peter Michael Lupp explained the European vision of the model project: being on the road as a pilgrim for European values, especially for peace! He emphasized once again the great cross-border commitment of all participants and thanked them warmly for it!
