At the outer “tip” of the project space in Alsace, the medieval church of Wattwiller now becomes a reference point on the Starry Path. The place lies directly on the Alsatian route of the woe of the pilgrims of St. James. The church is a Romanesque pillar basilica, which was gothicized in the 15th century. Inside there are niches with medieval wall paintings and a portrait tombstone of Anna of Watweil from 1344.

On the initiative of the President of the Alsatian St. James Society, Evelyne Studer, Claude Burger (Président du Conseil de Fabrique) and Mayor Matthieu Ermel were informed on site at the end of August by project manager Peter Michael Lupp about the European model project and its objectives.

According to the mayor, people in Wattwiller are very enthusiastic about the idea. The official inauguration event took place on October 17, 2021 (invitation).

In Wattwiller there is also a very nice pilgrim hostel run by Bärbel Sobriel and Angelika Wetzler, which has now also been designated as a pilgrimage station on the Star Trail.
